Day 1:
Sept. 11: Fly To Porto, Portugal
Depart the United States for an overnight flight to Porto, Portugal (connection in Amsterdam).
Day 2:
Sept. 12: Arrive In Porto
Bem-vindo a Portugal! Upon arrival in Porto, you'll be welcomed by your Tour Director and transferred to your beautiful hotel overlooking the Douro River. The remainder of the day is yours to relax and settle in before gathering this evening for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant where you'll meet your fellow travelers.

Day 3:
Sept. 13: Douro River Valley
Today you'll discover one of the world's most spectacular wine regions. Travel through the breathtaking Douro Valley, where terraced vineyards stretch across the hillsides overlooking the Douro River. Visit local wineries to sample the region's famous wines, enjoy a traditional Portuguese lunch and relax on a scenic river cruise through this UNESCO World Heritage landscape.

Day 4:
Sept. 14: Porto
Spend the day exploring Porto, one of Europe's most charming cities. Discover its colorful riverside district, historic architecture and lively atmosphere before cruising beneath Porto's famous bridges along the Douro River. Later, visit a traditional Port wine cellar to learn about Portugal's most famous export and enjoy a tasting.

Day 5:
Sept. 15: Coimbra – Nazaré
We depart Porto and travel south toward Coimbra, one of the gems of central Portugal. Home to the historic University of Coimbra, the city offers a fascinating blend of centuries of history, beautiful architecture, and vibrant student life. Enjoy time to stroll through its charming streets and soak in the atmosphere.
Later, we continue to the picturesque seaside village of Nazaré. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fresh seafood while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Nazaré is famous for its massive winter surfing waves, nearby cork groves, and the local women who traditionally wore seven petticoats while waiting along the shore for fishermen to return home.
Following our visit, we continue to our nearby hotel for the evening.

Day 6:
Sept. 16: Obidos – Lisbon
Our journey continues from the Nazaré area to Lisbon, the vibrant capital of Portugal. Along the way, we stop in the charming medieval village of Óbidos, surrounded by ancient walls and filled with whitewashed houses, colorful flowers, and inviting cobblestone streets. Enjoy time to browse local shops featuring handmade crafts, books, and the region's famous ginja liqueur.
Later, we arrive in Lisbon and check into our centrally located hotel, where we will spend the next three nights.
This evening, enjoy dinner at a traditional Fado house. Fado is Portugal's most beloved musical tradition, featuring emotional songs that tell stories of love, longing, and everyday life. Accompanied by the distinctive sounds of the Portuguese guitar, this memorable evening offers a wonderful introduction to the culture and spirit of Portugal.

Day 7:
Sept. 17: Fairytale Sintra
Today's excursion takes you to enchanting Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its romantic palaces and lush mountain setting. Visit the spectacular Pena Palace, one of Portugal's most iconic landmarks, before enjoying time to explore this charming town filled with cafés, boutiques and spectacular scenery.

Day 8:
Sept. 18: Lisbon At Leisure
Today is a free day to explore Lisbon and the area. Some optional experiences (not included) may include a short train ride to Pena Palace & the Sintra area. Pena Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dates from the Middle Ages when it began as a revered monastery designed with a mix of Neo-Gothic, Neo-Islamic, and Neo-Renaissance architecture. Another popular choice is the train ride to Evora to see the Bone Chapel at the Church of St. Francis. The chapel is decorated with the skulls and bones of humans who were exhumed from local cemeteries. Tonight we'll stroll up to the bohemian Bairro Alto for an included dinner with drinks.

Day 9:
Sept. 19: Fly Home From Lisbon - Or Extend Your Stay
After breakfast, transfer to Lisbon Airport for your flight home, bringing with you wonderful memories of Portugal's spectacular scenery, rich history, outstanding cuisine and warm hospitality.
