Our tour will feature some of the most beautiful sites along the Rhine River, as well as the Mosel and Neckar Rivers. We will also explore Rothenburg, Würzburg, Trier and Cologne. Day 1:
Fly To Germany

Depart the United States for an overnight flight to Europe and the charm of Germany.

Day 2:

Würzburg & Rothenburg

Guten Tag Germany! Upon arrival we depart for the historic town of Würzburg. Würzburg is surrounded by vineyards and a fortress overlooking the city. Enjoy some free time in Würzburg before departing for our hotel in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Tonight, mingle with fellow travelers during our delicious welcome dinner.

Day 3:

Rothenburg & Watchman Tour

Today we enjoy a full day in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Rothenburg is one of the best preserved medieval villages in Germany with the original town ramparts that you can still walk today. There are numerous meandering streets and squares to take advantage of during your free time. Tonight, a local guide joins us on the Night Watchman tour. This tour is led by lamp light through the streets of Rothenburg, all while discussing the history of this medieval marvel.

Day 4:

Heidelberg Castle

Today we depart Rothenburg for the quaint countryside around the Neckar River. Early afternoon finds us arriving in Heidelberg. Heidelberg offers unspoiled medieval architecture; old churches and numerous boutique shops, galleries, cafés, and restaurants. Highlights include the early 15th-century Heiliggeistkirche, the Church of the Holy Ghost, and the Heidelberg Castle which sits high above the town.

Day 5:
Roman Trier

Depart Heidelberg for the Roman city of Trier. Trier lies in the scenic Mosel Valley and includes Germany's oldest Christian church, a scenic market, as well as some of the best Roman ruins in Germany. Trier's Roman sites include Roman baths, an amphitheater and a basilica. Enjoy free time in Trier before departing for the hotel.

Day 6:

Burg Eltz & Mosel River

This morning we tour one of the best and well preserved castles in Europe, Burg Eltz. Burg Eltz has been in the same family for over 850 years and is decorated much the same as it was 500 years ago. Later, we enjoy a quaint river cruise on the scenic Mosel River.

Day 7:
Cologne Tour & Climate Smart

Today we tour Cologne, Germany's fourth largest city. Cologne's Cathedral is one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in Germany and dates back to the 13th century. After some free time in Cologne we depart for a Climate Smart City in a nearby town. Five pairs of cities in Germany and Minnesota are collaborating to develop efficient and sustainable responses to the challenges of climate change.

Day 8:

Rhine Villages

From Koblenz to Rüdesheim, this morning we tour some of the most scenic villages along the Rhine River. We will make a number of stops in the nearby towns that run the length of the middle Rhine valley. Many of these villages include stunning castles that dot the landscape.

Day 7:

Rüdesheim

Rüdesheim am Rhein is a town in the Rhine Valley. It's known for wine making, especially Riesling wines. In the village center, the Drosselgasse is a lane lined with shops, taverns, and restaurants. Later we will enjoy a cruise along the Rhine which includes the Lorelei. The Lorelei is a large rock on the bank of the Rhine River near Sankt Goarshausen. The rock produces an echo and is associated with the legend of a beautiful maiden who threw herself into the Rhine and was transformed into a siren who lured fishermen to destruction. Tonight we gather with our new friends over a farewell dinner.

Day 8:

Fly Home From Frankfurt

We pack our bags and say farewell as we depart for the airport in Frankfurt. We arrive back home with fond memories of our trip to Germany and the Rhineland.
